Galatasaray and Turkish international Arda Turan has alerted Liverpool FC boss Rafa Benitez by admitting he is a Liverpool fan, and eager to secure a summer switch to the Merseyside club. Liverpool FC have been serially linked with the talented Turkish international, along with Barcelona and Premier League rivals Arsenal for the last six months.
In 2008 Spanish publication Don Balon voted Turan as the 8th best starlet in world football, while his club side gave Turan the famous Galtasaray number 10 shirt worn by Gheorghe Hagi and the captaincy at the tender age of 22. The hype has prompted interest from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, Liverpool FC boss Rafa Benitez, and Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, with all three managers confirmed as sending scouts to watch the playmaker. Turan, currently 23, is eager to secure a move away form Turkish football, admitting his dream is to play at Anfield for the club he supports. The news will come as a snub to Arsene Wenger and Pep Guardiola’s interest. Liverpool FC manager Rafa Benitez is yet to confirm whether Liverpool FC will be making an offer for the player.
Turan told UEFA.com: “Of course I want to play abroad but it is our board’s decision. As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition. In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for them.
“My dream has always been to play for one of the top European clubs, but you shouldn’t make concrete plans in your life because sometimes these plans cannot be achieved. This is my dream, but for now I’m just working on my football.” (Sport.co.uk).
If Liverpool want to add more creativity to their stiff midfield then they could do worse than take up Arda Turan’s come and get me plea and bring the Turkish playmaker to Anfield. The £18m rated 23 year old has spent more than a decade at Galatasaray and after helping them to just about every domestic honour available he appears to be ready to move on and taste life in the big leagues of Europe. The fact that the adaptable attacker has singled out Liverpool is a good sign for Rafa Benitez who has apparently been interested in the pint sized flair player who’s best position is on the Anfield problem area of the left wing. The small matter of coming up with the cash for Turan could be the major stumbling block and clearly qualifying for next seasons Champions League may well help Rafa persuade the club’s backward American owners to cough up some cash. The club managed to rid themselves of some of their inferior squad members in the January transfer window by offloading Andriy Voronin and Andrea Dossena but perhaps further sales, such as those of Albert Riera and/or Ryan Babel, would help put the Merseyside outfit in a position to make a solid bid for a player who could well be a future Anfield cult hero.
